Seeding of barley progressed 10 percentage points to 17 percent planted, ahead of zero last year and the five-year (2007-2011) average. Durum wheat was 16 percent planted, compared with zero last year and 1 percent average. Spring wheat was 27 percent planted, compared with zero last year and the average of 2 percent. Oats progressed 12 percentage points to 24 percent planted, ahead of zero last year and 1 percent average. Planting of dry edible peas
reached 13 percent planted, a gain of 10 percentage points from last week. Sugarbeets were 13 percent planted, compared with zero at this time last year and the average of 3. Other activities during the week included applying fertilizer.
South Dakota
Recent precipitation helped improve winter wheat conditions rated at 15 percent poor, 27 percent fair, and 58 percent in good to excellent condition; compared to 10 percent very poor and 48 percent in good to excellent condition last week. Winter wheat is at 5 percent boot for the week ending April 15th. Barley is at 60 percent seeded, up 33 percentage points
from last week, with 22 percent emerged. Oats are reported at 80 percent planted and 43 percent emerged. Spring wheat is at 83 percent planted and 48 percent emerged. Corn is at 4 percent planted as of April 15th.
