The USDA reported today that private exporters sold China 110,000 tons of U.S. soft red winter wheat for shipment in the current marketing year.
Trade sources said that China is concerned about a drought- and disease- shortened wheat crop, which led to the country’s largest one-off purchase of soft red winter wheat in 8 1/2 years.
Analysts have said that China has been expected to more than double its wheat imports this year as crop damage spurs demand for higher-grade wheat from countries like the U.S. and Canada.
