St. Louis (April 21, 2011) With just a short time left until Monsanto announces its 2011 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year, there’s still time to submit a nomination for your favorite farm mom at AmericasFarmers.com. Nominations will be accepted through Mother’s Day, May 8.
Monsanto has partnered with American Agri-Women to select five regional winners based on the way each contributes to her family, farm, community and the agricultural industry. These regional winners will be announced on May 16, when winners’ profiles and nominations will be posted on AmericasFarmers.com. Each will receive a $5,000 cash prize from Monsanto, and the farm mom receiving the most online votes by May 26 will receive an additional $2,500 and the title of 2011 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year.
“From the nominations we have received so far, its evident there are a lot of special farm women throughout the country,” says Chris Chavis, Monsanto spokeswoman for the America’s Farmers Mom of the Year program. “Everyone out there knows an amazing farm mom. There is still time to nominate her for a chance to win the Farm Mom of the Year title and a $7,500 cash prize.”
“No matter where or what women farm, they play a vital role in helping feed and clothe a growing population,” says 2010 Farm Mom of the Year, Carol Cowan, of Watonga, Oklahoma. “Farm families are dedicated to producing more and conserving more for the next generations.”
To be eligible, a mom must be at least 18 years of age and work on an active farm or livestock operation meeting the requirements set in the contest rules. Anyone can submit a nomination by visiting the America’s Farmers website before Mother’s Day and explaining in 300 words or fewer how their favorite farm mom embodies the farm family way of life. Nominations will be judged by Monsanto and American Agri-Women (AAW), a national coalition of women’s farmer, ranch and agribusiness organizations, and entries will be judged based on the criteria in the contest rules.
