Key trade issues highlight USMEF Board of Directors meeting

When the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Board of Directors meeting kicks off Wednesday in Washington, D.C., USMEF members will be addressed by a terrific slate of high-level guest speakers. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack will speak on Wednesday afternoon at the Opening General Session. He will be followed by U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and senior member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng says the membership will benefit greatly from this opportunity for a face-to-face discussion of pending free trade agreements, negotiations related to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and many other global trade issues and trade barriers. Utilization of Market Access Program (MAP) funding to promote U.S. agricultural products will also be discussed.

In Friday’s closing session, the keynote speaker will be Ambassador Isi Siddiqui (pronounced ee-see suh-dee-kee), chief agricultural negotiator for the Office of U.S. Trade Representative.

All sessions will be held May 25-27 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. For a complete agenda and further updates, please visit www.usmef.org.
