South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 255,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on May 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is up 20,000 head from a year earlier but down 10,000 head from a month earlier.
Placements during April totaled 31,000 head, down 8,000 head from last year and down 15,000 head from March 2011.
Marketings of fed cattle during April totaled 39,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year but down 5,000 head from March 2011.
Other disappearance during April totaled 2,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year but unchanged from March 2011.
