South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 235,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on June 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is up 5,000 head from a year earlier but down 20,000 head from a month earlier.
Placements during May totaled 33,000 head, down 9,000 head from last year but up 2,000 head from April 2011. Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 50,000 head, up 6,000 head from last year and up11,000 head from April 2011.
Other disappearance during May totaled 3,000 head, unchanged from last year but up 1,000head from April 2011.
