South Dakota reported cattle on feed for slaughter market down from year ago

South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 195,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on August 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 5,000 head from a year earlier and down 15,000 head from a month earlier.

Placements during July totaled 22,000 head, down 11,000 head from last year and down 9,000 head from June 2011.

Marketings of fed cattle during July totaled 35,000 head, down 12,000 head from last year and down 11,000 head from June 2011.

Other disappearance during July totaled 2,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year but down 8,000 head from June 2011.
