Jolene Brown, nationally-known professional speaker and Iowa farmer, will keynote the North Dakota Farm Bureau annual meeting, scheduled for November 18-19, at the Grand International in Minot. Brown will share her wisdom and wit at the Saturday (Nov. 19) annual banquet. The theme for the annual meeting is “Meeting the Challenge.”
“Weather issues made 2011 a difficult year for farmers in North Dakota,” said NDFB Executive Vice President Jeffrey Missling. “In times of difficulty, communication between family members often suffers. Brown’s presentation, The top ten stupid things families do to break up their business, will highlight some of the ways farm families can prevent business catastrophes and even minimize the daily aggravations of working with family.”
The annual meeting opens with an awards luncheon on Friday and wraps up on Saturday night with the annual banquet. The opening session — including NDFB President Eric Aasmundstad’s annual address — immediately follows the Friday luncheon. Delegate action begins on Friday afternoon and continues through Saturday. Friday evening will feature a social and fun night, with remarks by Nodak Mutual CEO Jim Alexander, as well as the annual auction to benefit the NDFB Foundation.
On Saturday, elections will be held for directors in districts 3, 7, and 9 during district caucuses. Directors from each of the nine Farm Bureau districts serve on the organization’s state board. In addition, elections for NDFB PAC directors and the NDFB Promotion and Education Committee will be held during the caucuses. Immediately following the district caucuses, elections for president and vice president of the organization will be held.
Saturday afternoon highlights include an educational workshop sponsored by the Promotion and Education Committee, and the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee YF&R Challenge finals. The winner will go on to compete at the national Discussion Meet, held during the AFBF annual meeting in Hawaii in January.
Extended daycare will be available so attendees with children can participate in the delegate session and other events.
A full annual meeting agenda can be found on the NDFB website at http://www.ndfb.org/?id=143&event_id=84.
