Representative Kristi Noem announced yesterday that Brad Lawrence, City of Fort Pierre Director of Public Works, has accepted an invitation to testify at the U.S. House Missouri River Flood hearing on November 30th. Earlier this year, Lawrence was recognized for emails he sent to Washington, DC warning against possible flooding in the spring. As Director of Public Works, Lawrence will also be able to speak to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers interaction with local governments during the flooding.
“The Committee will be well served to hear Brad’s perspective on what happened earlier this year along the Missouri River. He picked up on things while observing the river for only a few minutes a day last winter that the Corps seemed to miss entirely. His experience as a local government official interacting with the Corps on flood prevention and clean up will also be useful to the Committee. I look forward to hearing what he has to say,” said Noem.
The November 30th hearing was originally requested by the Missouri River Flood Working Group earlier this year, which Rep. Noem helps lead. The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment will hold the hearing and requested Lawrence to testify upon the recommendation of Rep. Noem. Other witnesses will be announced in the coming days.
