Wheat leaders are watching Washington

The U.S. Wheat Associates and National Association of Wheat Growers are holding their joint Fall Board Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the farm bill is a hot topic.

Several of the farm bill proposals that lawmakers are considering would build on crop insurance with a revenue program as the cornerstone of the farm safety net.  Weckerly says wheat growers are keeping a close eye on the developments….

Weckerly on Wheat’s Perspective

Leaders of the Ag Committees have said that agricultural programs should take no more than $23 billion in cuts over the next ten years through the ongoing debt-reduction process.  Those cuts would come on top of more than $40 billion in cuts in recent years to crop insurance, nutrition and other programs.
