As the new year comes around, the twenty-twelve farm bill seems to be a hot topic on the minds of those in the agriculture industry and in Washington. Acting Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Michael Scuse says the million dollar question concerns what the farm safety net will look like in new farm bill, and he wishes he had an answer.
Scuse says he believes crop insurance is one of the most important pieces in that safety net, as it has been a huge success. He thinks it will play a major role in the next farm bill.
Despite the numerous disasters across the nation that still point at the importance of a strong safety net, Scuse says agriculture had a great year at home and trading abroad.
