Governor Dennis Daugaard has appointed Sioux Falls businessman Duane Sather to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission.
Sather currently serves as a director of several privately held companies that build and operate ethanol plants. From 1972 to 1996, he was president of Sather Trucking Corp; he also was chairman of Sathers, Inc., a wholesale candy manufacturer and distributor, from 1988 to 1996.
“Duane is an avid hunter, and a former hunting lodge owner,” Gov. Daugaard said. “He will bring a sportsman’s perspective as well as a landowner’s perspective to the GFP Commission.” “Duane has worked with many farmers in his role of promoting ethanol plants and cooperative farmer investments,” the Governor added. “He also has experience on other boards of directors, and that will be valuable to the GFP Commission as a policymaking body.”
Sather succeeds James McMahon of Canton, who has been a commissioner since 2008.
“It is an honor to join the commission,” Sather said. “South Dakota has great hunting and great fishing, and I will do everything I can to ensure that those opportunities are maximized, as well as promote our wonderful state parks and campgrounds.” GFP appointments are subject to state Senate confirmation.
