South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 260,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on February 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 10,000 head from a year earlier but unchanged from a month earlier.
Placements during January totaled 45,000 head, down 6,000 head from last year but up 8,000 head from December 2011.
Marketings of fed cattle during January totaled 44,000 head, up 4,000 head from last year and up 7,000 head from December 2011.
Other disappearance during January totaled 1,000 head, unchanged from last year but down 4,000 head from December 2011.
