Sugarbeet Institute gathers in Grand Forks

Billed as the biggest sugarbeet trade show in North America, the 50th International Sugarbeet Institute is underway at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

 The floor of the Alerus is covered with booths representing 125 companies and equipment manufacturers.  Show organizers say $4.5 million worth of products and equipment are on display.

 Wednesday’s program at 1:15 p.m. features keynote speaker Owen Wagner, Senior Economist with LMC International.  He’ll update growers a status update and outlook for North American sugar markets.  Wagner specializes in competitive benchmarking of ag industries and feasibility studies for capital investment projects.

 Thursday’s program features a weather outlook for 2012 from Leon Osborne, President of Meridian Environmental Technology in Grand Forks.  His address begins at 10:10 a.m.

 The show wraps up mid-afternoon on Thursday.
