House Ag Subcommittee talks energy programs

The House Ag Committee continued their series of Farm Bill hearings Friday by holding a hearing in the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry to look at energy and forestry programs in the farm bill.

Representative Glenn Thompson, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry, says began the hearing by addressing energy programs.

Ready for the questioning of the program, Jerry Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer at MFA Oil Company, testified that the program is worth the money.

During questioning, Taylor emphasized the importance of seeing funded project through.

Agriculture Energy Coalition Director Ryan Stroschein said that there are tough decisions to make with the current budget situation, but, for the programs he is in favor of he is willing to help the Committee find ways to fund them.

He says he doesn’t have the silver bullet answer in how to fund the programs, but is willing to work with the committee to find that funding. Witnesses at the hearing all maintained that the farm bill energy programs support energy security and job creation.
