Goss’s wilt discovered in South Dakota, wheat leaf rust in North Dakota

Goss’s wilt was discovered on corn in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota last week. The first reports of Goss’s wilt in South Dakota surfaced in Minnehaha and Turner counties, according to South Dakota State University Extension.

In North Dakota, wheat leaf rust was found in winter wheat in eastern Cass County and southwestern Slope County at trace levels. This is the first confirmed detection of wheat leaf rust this year, according to a North Dakota State University Extension pathologist. The eastern half of the state continues to experience the disease in both winter and spring wheat.
