North & South Dakota pasture & range conditions

North Dakota

Pasture and range conditions were 1 percent very poor, 9 poor, 27 fair, 57 good, and 6 excellent. First cuttings of alfalfa and other hay were 59 percent and 29 percent complete, respectively. Hay conditions were rated 8 percent very poor, 23 poor, 31 fair, 35 good, and 3 excellent. Stockwater supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 9 short, 85 adequate and 3 surplus.

South Dakota

Cattle conditions were rated 93 percent in the good to excellent range, while sheep conditions were rated 96 percent good to excellent. Stock water supplies were 4 percent very short, 20 percent short and 76 percent adequate to surplus. Feed supplies were 3 percent very short, 10 percent short and 87 percent adequate to surplus. Range and pasture conditions were rated 4 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 36 percent fair and 48 percent good to excellent.
