USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has updated data on the nation’s more than 32-hundred soil survey areas. NRCS National Leader of Soil Business Systems Dave Hoover says the update is a major step forward in meeting the growing demand for NRCS soils data. Hoover says soil scientists in every state helped upgrade the software and databases, improve spatial data and compile a complete suite of soil interpretations and other products customers want. The NRCS Web Soil Survey serves more than 180-thousand users each month – and those users print nearly 100-thousand soil surveys and reports each month – and download more than 25-thousand soil survey reports.
NRCS Acting Deputy Chief for Soil Science and Assessment Dave Smith says the soils data will be refreshed every October beginning this year to give customers even better, more up-to-date tools to assess their soils, develop conservation plans on their farms or whatever they may need the data for.
