Agricultural Guest Worker Revamp Appears Stalled In Committee – Audio

The House Judiciary Committee today beginning mark up of a bill many had hoped would provide an answer to the perpetual worker shortage in agriculture. Virginia Republican and Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte’s bill, as proposed, would scrap the existing H2A ag worker program and replace it with a new H2C program. Representative Goodlatte, in his opening remarks:

But, like so many things, the devil was in the details.  The bill, as drafted, would drop requirements for housing and transportation, as well as allow a lower wage than currently required. It was also missing one important detail. Ranking Member John Conyers of Michigan
