USDA Secretary Perdue Discusses Issues with NAFB Members in DC

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and NAFB President Tom Cassidy at USDA headquarters for Washington Watch 2018.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue met with members of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting at USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.  The Secretary covered a number of topics ranging from trade, the farm bill, SNAP reform, biotech labeling, rural connectivity and the Renewable Fuels Standard.

Given the partisan divide in the House Ag Committee over a draft farm bill proposal passed out of committee last week, and the fall elections in the U.S. looming on the horizon, Secretary Perdue says he’s hopeful that Congress will pass new legislation before the current bill expires later this fall.

The Secretary acknowledged that the “cumulative” stress of several recent events isn’t making life any easier for the nation’s farmers and ranchers.
