In the fall of 2017, the Northarvest Bean Growers Association (NBGA) began offering an undergraduate scholarship. NBGA is pleased to announce that Katlyn Balstad of Fosston, Minnesota was awarded this year’s $1,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of NBGA members Scott and Marlys Balstad and is enrolled at North Dakota State University. Her study focus is Social Science Education.
Balstad had served as the Fosston High School student council vice president and the president of the Fosston chapter of the National Honor Society. She was also active in 4-H, band, choir and last season was the co-captain of the swim team. She has met all the requirements in her application and demonstrated her scholastic achievements, leadership abilities and also her service to the community.
In order to be eligible for the NBGA scholarship, a parent or grandparent must be a current grower member of the NBGA, be enrolled or plan to enroll in the first year of college or technical college, and have at least a 3.0 grade point average from high school. Balstad will be recognized at Bean Day which will be held Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Holiday Inn located in Fargo, N.D.
