MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA, APRIL 20, 2021 – IDEAg, producer of Dakotafest, invites area 4-H clubs and FFA chapters to sign up for the inaugural Hay Bale Art Auction to raise money for their organizations.
Groups participating in this program will work, as a club or chapter, to design and build a sculpture made primarily from hay bales along with paint and other supplies. The final structures will be built on the Dakotafest show grounds and must remain on display throughout the show, Aug. 3-5. The finished sculptures will be sold at auction during the show, with all proceeds going directly to the groups involved in the event.
“We are excited about this new program that will engage youth interested in agriculture,” said Melissa Sanders Carroll, IDEAg executive director. “The Hale Bale Art Auction is a fun, creative way for the entire Dakotafest and Mitchell community at-large to support the future of agriculture in South Dakota.”
Hay bale art construction will take place Aug. 14 – Aug. 16. Interested buyers can attend Dakotafest, Aug. 17-19, to peruse the hay bale art showcase, then bid on their favorite at the auction on Aug. 19.
Organizations wishing to participate in the Hay Bale Art Auction must complete applications online at Dakotafest.com.
