White House: Right to Repair, Livestock Market Announcements Coming

The White House this week announced and upcoming executive order will include several agriculture provisions, including right to repair, livestock markets and more. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki speaking Tuesday offered some details on the upcoming action, saying, “Part of the president’s forthcoming executive order on competition, stay tuned, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it will engage in a series of rulemakings to increase competition in agricultural industries, to boost farmers and ranchers earnings, fight back against abuses of power by giant agribusiness corporations and give farmers the right to repair their own equipment how they like.”

The executive order will direct USDA to issue new rules under the Packers and Stockyards Act, new rules regarding Product of USA labels, and to develop plans to increase opportunities for farmers to access markets and receive a fair return.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Omaha on Friday to make a “major announcement,” according to USDA, but there’s no word on specifics yet.
