Renewable Energy Among Top Farm Issues in 2022

Renewable energy will again join top farm issues this year, as Congress and the administration grapple with climate and sustainability needs, and the American Farm Bureau weighs in.

American Farm Bureau’s Sam Kieffer on key issues AFB will tackle in 2022, as policymakers continue to seek ways to reduce carbon pollution. “We’re going to also focus on renewable energy…US biofuels play an important role. We’re also going to be looking at sustainability efforts, as Congress and the administration look to focus on greenhouse gases and carbon markets—we want to make sure that farmers have a seat at the table.”

The Senate last year passed the Growing Climate Solutions Act for USDA to help producers use voluntary carbon markets. The House was working on its own bill.

This and more could be discussed at AFB’s annual convention starting Friday. “Our 103rd convention and meeting of our voting delegates happens in Atlanta, Georgia, looking forward to getting back together, make sure everybody remains safe in doing so. But our delegates are going to be discussing several important topics.”

Among them, taxes, regulatory rollbacks, farm bill, renewable energy, supply chain bottlenecks and more.
