Senators Release Revised Version of Cattle Price Discovery Bill

By Chris Clayton, DTN Ag Policy Editor

OMAHA (DTN) — The Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act is now on its third revision as the senators who authored the bill released a new version on Monday.

Senators Jon Tester, D-Mont.; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Deb Fischer, R-Neb.; and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., on Monday released the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2022. The bill would still set minimum volumes of cash trade for packers in five to seven regions around the country.

Grassley, Tester and Fischer first proposed similar legislation in summer 2020 after cattle markets crashed because COVID-19 had shut down packer processing, yet boxed beef prices soared.
