Dakotafest Calls for 2022 Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year Nominations

IDEAg Group LLC., producers of Dakotafest, seeks nominations for the third-annual Dakotafest Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year Award.

The Dakotafest Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year, created in 2020, honors hard-working female farmers across South Dakota who selflessly dedicate their time to growing crops and raising livestock on the farm.

This year, five nominees will be chosen among all candidates and honored live at the Women in Ag event that will be held in the Dakotafest Education Building during the 2022 show in Mitchell. The Women in Ag event features a female ag speaker and concludes with one finalist being named the Dakotafest Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year and receiving a one-thousand dollar cash prize.

Audra Scheel was named the 2021 Dakotafest Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year last August for her years of farming corn, soybeans and cover crops in Alpena, S.D.

“Women are the backbone of rural America and wear many hats to get it all done.” said Scheel, “I have appreciation for Dakotafest’s recognition of the grower, feeder, animal caretaker, business manager, tractor repairer, lunch maker, parts hauler, truck driver, educator, and every other woman leader in our communities who make agriculture what it is.”

The award ceremony will take place during the Women in Ag event the morning of Aug. 18.

“There are so many deserving women farmers across South Dakota committed to production agriculture,” said Niki Jones, marketing director, events, IDEAg. “We ask residents to nominate a hard-working female farmer so we can show our appreciation for their efforts.”

The award is sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services, Farm Credit Services of America, Brock Grain Systems and Mitchell Radio Group’s KMIT.

Those wishing to submit a nomination, either of themselves or for someone else, or attend the Women in Ag event, can visit Dakotafest.com for more information. Nominations close June 3.
