Senate Ag Committee Advances Taylor, Esteban and Logan Nominations

On Tuesday, the Senate Ag Committee advanced the nomination of Alexis Taylor to be Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at USDA.

The Ag Committee also advanced the nominations of Dr. Jose Emilio Esteban to be Under Secretary for Food Safety at USDA as well as Vincent Logan to be a Member of the Farm Credit Administration Board.

“Dr. Jose Esteban, Vincent Logan, and Alexis Taylor have spent their careers as dedicated public servants and are proven to be highly qualified for these critical roles. Each of these nominees has strong bipartisan support, and I am looking forward to moving them quickly through the Senate,” said Senator Stabenow.

Taylor, who currently serves as the director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, was nominated by the Biden administration back in May. Talk on Capitol Hill is that the goal is to have final, full Senate confirmation for each nominee by the end of this week.

Numerous ag groups have come out in support of the nominations to the full Senate. You can view some of those responses below:

Farmers for Free Trade Statement On Passage Of Alexis Taylor through Senate Ag Committee
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Brian Kuehl, Executive Director of Farmers for Free Trade, the nation’s leading ag trade advocacy coalition, released a statement commending the Senate Ag Committee on sending the nomination of Alexis Taylor to be Under Secretary For Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs to the full Senate.
“It’s encouraging to see the nomination of Alexis Taylor move through the Senate Ag Committee in a bipartisan manner. Our farmers, ranchers and processors rely on overseas market to successfully run their operations. It is imperative that we have a full team of negotiators on the field to bolster American exports and having Alexis Taylor as Undersecretary of Ag Trade at USDA is essential to doing that. The full Senate should move her nomination forward as soon as possible.
“We are also asking the Senate to move swiftly in confirming Doug McKalip as Ag Trade Negotiator at USTR. We are concerned to see that Senator Menendez has placed a hold on the nomination of Mr. McKalip. Regardless of Senator Menedez’s intentions behind the hold, further delaying the ag negotiator position is self-defeating and a disservice to American farmers who rely on exports. We encourage Senator Menendez to work with the administration to lift the hold as soon as possible.”
