Soybean Harvest Over Halfway; Corn Almost There

According to this week’s Crop Progress Report from USDA, soybean harvest is over the halfway mark nationwide. Soybeans are 63% harvested as of Sunday, October 16th. That is up 19% from last week and 11% ahead of the five year average for this time of year. 57% of soybeans remaining in fields were in good to excellent condition as well. Meantime, corn harvest nationwide is nearing the halfway mark as 45% of corn is harvested as of Sunday. That’s up 14% from last week and 5% ahead of the five year average of 40% for this time of year. 53% of corn remaining in the field is in good to excellent condition according to the USDA report.

In North Dakota, 25% of corn is harvested which is 2% higher than the five year average. South Dakota corn is 44% harvested as of Sunday, up from the 29% five year average for this time of year. Iowa corn is 38% harvested, Minnesota is 36% complete and Nebraska is 46% harvested on the corn side.

For soybeans, North Dakota is 76% harvested as of Sunday. That is up from the five year average of 61%. South Dakota soybean harvest is 82% complete which is up from the 56% five year average for this time of year. Iowa soybeans are 74% harvested, Minnesota stands at 83% complete and Nebraska is at 76% harvested.

Winter wheat planting nationwide is now 69% complete as of Sunday with 38% of the crop emerged as of Sunday. Emergence is 6% behind the five year average of 44% for this time of year.

Sugarbeet harvest is 54% complete with North Dakota at 79% and Minnesota at 82% as of Sunday. The sunflower harvest is 19% complete nationwide with North Dakota at 19% complete and South Dakota at 17% completed.

We expect mostly dry weather ahead until this weekend which should allow for more rapid harvest fieldwork to continue across much of the country.
