(Fargo, ND) — Agriculture leaders say the sugar beet harvest in the Red River Valley is expected to be good. Officials with American Crystal Sugar say the harvest should amount to about 12-million tons. Planting came about three weeks late because of colder than usual temperatures in May. ACS officials say the shorter growing season has been a challenge, but that they’re not too worried about sugar content. The sugar beet industry has an estimated economic impact of about five-billion dollars on the Red River Valley.
