(SAO PAULO, BRAZIL) – As of Thursday, beef exports are being halted from Brazil to China after reports of BSE (or mad cow disease) were confirmed by the Brazilian government.

The suspension of beef exports is expected to be temporary in nature according to a report from Reuters. It comes as part of a prior animal health agreement between the two countries. The last time beef exports from Brazil to China were suspended due to cases of BSE in Brazil was back in 2021. That lasted for about three months.
