(Pierre, SD) — A new bill would authorize the South Dakota governor to block foreign acquisition of agriculture land. The measure was filed yesterday in the state Senate on behalf of Governor Noem. The governor’s office says South Dakota is the first state to propose this method of restricting foreign ag land purchases. A similar bill would require foreign ownership interests of agriculture land to be reported.
