WASHINGTON, DC, June 4, 2024 – Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) released the following statement by Executive Director Rachel Maleh ahead of the June 5-7 international conference devoted to trespass prevention, crossing safety and the June 6 observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD):
“Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) is honored to be among the speakers at this year’s Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina to exchange ideas and best practices on level crossing safety and trespass prevention. This critically important global gathering promotes safe behavior along railroad rights-of-way and at railroad crossings. OLI is participating in the international observance of Trespass Awareness Day (TRESPAD) June 5 and the 16th Annual International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) June 6. OLI values these collaborative efforts with international partners sharing the rail safety education message worldwide.
“The 2024 ILCAD theme targets vulnerable users with the slogan, Beware of trains. Life can change in a split second.  OLI wants drivers, pedestrians, passenger rail and transit users to remember: See Tracks? Think Train!®. Our library of free assets – from brochures, videos and public service announcements to lesson plans and activities as well as other online resources – highlights the importance of making safe choices around tracks and trains.
“Here in the U.S., Operation Lifesaver programs in 47 states and the District of Columbia offer free rail safety presentations to a wide range of audiences including professional drivers, new drivers, school bus drivers, first responders, K-12 students, community groups and much more. Sign up for a free rail safety presentation and learn more about volunteering with OLI to make a difference in your community by visiting oli.org. Together, we can stop track tragedies.”
