(Bismarck, ND) — Tractors and combines are a common sight across North Dakota’s farm fields right now as harvest season is in full swing. Now that the weather is drier, farmers are harvesting a variety of crops, and they say canola yields are looking especially promising. While drought, hail, flooded fields, and fungus caused some issues, farmers say crop damage is isolated this year.
North Dakota ranks number one in canola production in the U.S., and farmers across the state expect a good crop this season. Twenty-percent of North Dakota’s canola crop has already been harvested, and the rest should be harvested shortly. The Northern Canola Growers Association is reporting above-average yields so far, and expects a record harvest of two-point-one-million acres of canola this year.
As the harvest continues, authorities say you should be mindful of farm equipment while driving on rural highways and gravel roads.
