LUBBOCK, TX —National Sorghum Producers (NSP) announced the launch of an educational webinar series titled Essentials of Sorghum Crop Insurance, Innovation and Economic Opportunities that Lie Ahead. This series is designed to provide sorghum producers with critical insights into the latest enhancements and opportunities within sorghum crop insurance and double crop production.
Webinar Series Overview:
The webinar series includes three sessions, each focusing on different aspects of recent insurance policy updates and their practical implications for sorghum producers nationwide:
- Session 1: “Building Resilient Systems and the Economic Impact of Double Crop Sorghum”
- Date: September 17, 2024 at 12:30 pm central time
- Speakers: Matt Durler, Managing Director of NSP Climate-Smart Sorghum, and John Duff from Serō Ag Strategies.
- Focus: This session will explore the role farm practices, including double crop sorghum, play in low carbon fuel and food premium markets, potential premiums under the Clean Fuel Production Credit, or 45Z, and how climate-smart production systems offer opportunity to increase farm resiliency and profitability.
- Session 2: “Navigating Double Crop Sorghum Production and Insurance”
- Date: January 21, 2025
- Speakers: Chris Cogburn, Manager of Sustainable Crop Insurance Services, LP, and Brent Bean, Ph.D., Agronomy Director at Sorghum Checkoff.
- Focus: Participants will receive detailed guidance on policy adjustments for double cropping, eliminating barriers for insuring double crop irrigated sorghum, practical advice for working with crop insurance agents, and management strategies for growing a successful crop.
- Session 3: “Sorghum Silage Insurance Options”
- Date: January 28, 2025
- Speaker: Chris Cogburn, Manager of Sustainable Crop Insurance Services, LP.
- Focus: This session will address recent simplifications made to the sorghum silage policy and how these benefit producers in various states, enhancing their insurance options and operational flexibility. Use of the annual forage policy for sorghum silage will also be covered in this session.
