Ranchers Urged To Vaccinate Livestock From Anthrax

(Bismarck, ND) — The threat of anthrax in livestock is prompting the state veterinarian to advise producers to vaccinate their animals against the disease. Anthrax is caused by a bacteria which can lie dormant in the ground for years before emerging under the right conditions. Those conditions include during extremely dry conditions or after heavy rainfall. Animals can be infected by grazing on grasses with the bacteria’s spores on it or by drinking water contaminated with the bacteria.
