Jesse Allen is joined by Brevant retail sales agronomist, Tyler Stastny at the NAFB Convention.
Q: Tyler, let’s talk. I know you are based in Nebraska and just wrapped up 2024 harvest. Of course, I know there were varying conditions across the corn belt. How are things in your region in Nebraska?
TS: Brevant was really, really successful in 2024 in eastern Nebraska. We had a lot of diseases that came in, specifically Southern Rust this year. And I felt like our portfolio handled Southern Rust extremely well, which really set us apart in the industry.
Q: What about things like tar spot? And you know, we hear about corn rootworm pressures, white mold and soybeans. What about some of those disease and pest pressures?
TS: When I think about eastern Nebraska, Amaranthus species, you know, that’s crop protection. But I really think about just how hard to control those small seed broadleaves are. So then I think about tar spot and as it moves in, it’s very similar. Farmers need to have on top of mind, for 2025, tar spot and how it overwinters and just how fast like the sporulation of that particular disease is.
Q: It’s one of those things where we look at what we learned this year, of course, as we start making decisions for next year. Talk about that and some perspective when you look at Brevant brand products.
TS: When I think about disease tolerance – and I think about how we make our best decisions, how you’re going to make your best seed purchasing decisions in 2025 – it really does start with the seed, and it’s amazing where we’re at today.
I’m only 30 today, but when I think about how far the industry has come just in my short career with genetics, it’s exciting to see what the future brings and where the traits are. But with PowerCore Enlist and Vorceed bringing excellent rootworm protection, on the Vorceed side, bringing herbicide flexibility, there’s some really great options and traits out there today that you can really hone in on to make your best decisions for 2025.
Q: Well, I’m sure as folks are making those decisions, they can contact their local retailer, their local Brevant sales representative, their retail sales agronomist and go online. There’s a lot of great ways to get in touch, right, Tyler?
TS: Absolutely, just get in touch with your local retailer.
