During the 2024 NAFB Trade Talk, Corryn LaRue caught up with Richard Turner from Channel and Bayer Crop Science.
Q: Richard, what’s new as we head into 2025?
A: Yep. So, new Channel. We just merged with 10 of our regional brands, so we have a huge portfolio of corn and soybeans now. So we’re excited to get out in the marketplace, make a splash, and hopefully people that don’t know about Channel can learn a little bit about Channel and maybe we can get some Channel on some acres that currently haven’t been able to get on before.
Q: And as we wrap up harvest for corn and soybeans, anything glaring, anything exciting?
Yeah. So across the Midwest, I mean, corn yields are looking really, really good for 2024. Some guys are kind of pleased or not pleased with soybean harvest so far as far as just averages, that’s kind of across all brands. Just planting conditions, wet soils, not timely rainfalls, stuff like that. So have some guys looking at, make some changes in the soybean market. But yeah, man, corn did really, really well.
And have some guys excited for 2025. Low commodity prices obviously have some guys a little bit concerned. So walking through just economics and agronomics, it’s a way that we can make farms more profitable.
Q: And you mentioned, you know, there’s some nerves in the farming community, and I think everybody kind of shares that sentiment. Any message for our producers who are a little concerned going into 2025?
Yeah, it’s going to be a tight year. Guys are definitely nervous. I think we just need to sit down with some of our experts and really go through a crop budget. We need to make a crop budget. We need to stick to a crop budget. So that way we make sure that we don’t end up in the red at the end of the year for 2025.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add before we head out?
