A new report issued today by USDA’s Economic Research Service, Trends in U.S. Fruit Consumption Relative to Recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, investigates trends in U.S. fruit intake relative to guidelines. Results show that a growing segment of the population regularly consumes little to no fruit.
Here are a few findings from the report:
- About 23 percent of all U.S. children and 15 percent of adults have been consuming the recommended amount of fruit and fruit juice since at least the mid–2000s.
- More U.S. children and adults are consuming little to no fruit.
- USDA, Economic Research Service research revealed little association between either household income or fruit prices and the likelihood that someone consumed the recommended daily amount of fruit.
