Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative announced its priorities for the next congressional session. “At Edge, we constantly strive to stay on the forefront of issues impacting our farmer members,” says Karen Gefvert, director of government affairs. “We strategically outlined our policy initiatives for 2025 to focus on the critical needs of dairy farmers across the Midwest.”
The dairy industry, as a whole, is suffering from a lack of available labor, and Edge says a rural workforce for rural prosperity is one of the top priorities this year. They’ll also be busy advocating for a new farm bill, which contains programs that can help farmers improve their ability to earn a living. The Co-op also says the Upper Midwest is a powerhouse for cheese production, so ensuring opportunities for dairy through existing, expanding, or emerging markets is essential to healthy growth. Edge also stands with its farmers in their commitment to sustainability.
