Kansas City, Mo. — Gallagher, a global leader in animal management solutions, announces its official North American eShepherd™ virtual fencing launch. The company first brought this technology to North America in early 2024, piloting it with producers. eShepherd virtual fencing system is designed to transform the way producers manage their livestock.
This breakthrough technology offers an efficient, sustainable, and animal-friendly solution to fencing, redefining the future of livestock management.
“We decided to leverage virtual fencing in our business because of the physical and logistical challenges that come along with trying to implement rotational grazing at scale,” says Nick Jorgensen, CEO of Jorgenson Land and Cattle. “Lots of people do rotational grazing and I’m sure lots of them do it in in larger herds like ours, but what we found is that we’ve got too many groups of cows spread out too far apart on too many acres.”
eShepherd™ creates virtual boundaries for grazing livestock. Equipped with a solar-powered neckband, animals are guided within designated areas through auditory cues and a pulse. Producers create and monitor livestock boundaries remotely via a web and smartphone app, enabling more precise management of grazing patterns and improved pasture utilization.
“eShepherd represents a new era in livestock management,” says Sharl Liebergreen, general manager of eShepherd. “By integrating cutting-edge technology with proven animal behavior principles, we are helping producers enhance productivity while maintaining animal welfare and sustainability.”
The eShepherd™ system supports rotational grazing, helping producers maximize pasture regeneration and reduce overgrazing.
