Cattle on Feed Down 3%; Hog Inventory Down 2% as of December 1st

On Friday afternoon ahead of the Christmas holiday, USDA released the Cattle on Feed and Quarterly Hogs & Pigs Reports.

In the Cattle on Feed report, cattle inventory as of December 1st, 2022 was down 3% compared to last year. Placements were 2% below 2021, marketings of fed cattle were 1% above 2021. Marketings were the highest for November since the series began in 1996.

Hog inventory was 73.1 million head as of December 1st, down 2% from 2021. Market hog inventory was down 2 percent from last year and down 1 percent from last quarter.
