(East Grand Forks, MN) — The American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks is facing a fine after being accused of illegal wastewater dumping. The sugar company is accused of water discharge violations stemming from practices at its plants. Officials say American Crystal disposed of their waste water by releasing it into the Red Lake River multiple times between 2021 and 2022. The company is being ordered to pay a 26-thousand dollar fine by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
