Drought Puts ND Wheat Yields In Danger

(Bismarck, ND) — Dry conditions throughout the state of North Dakota this year may have a negative impact on wheat crop. This past June was the driest recorded in the state since 1979, with less than an inch of total recorded rainfall. If the drought persists, it could impact wheat yields and cause an increase in nitrates within the plant. These nitrates can be unhealthy if consumed by livestock, and experts are recommending that farmers test their wheat for them. Despite the lack of rain, soy bean and corn yields are still reportedly on track.
