SDSU Extension to Host 34th Annual Winter Wheat Meeting Aug. 17 in Draper

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension and the Jones County Crop Improvement Association will host the 34th Annual Winter Wheat Meeting on Aug. 17, 2023, in Draper, South Dakota.

The meeting provides South Dakota wheat producers with the most recent SDSU winter wheat variety trial results, as well as information on wheat production in South Dakota. It starts at 6:30 p.m. CDT at the Draper city auditorium and includes a meal.

Anyone interested in wheat production in South Dakota is welcome. Registration is not required, and it is free to attend.

This year’s speakers include Dwayne Beck, former manager of the SDSU Dakota Lakes Research Farm, who will discuss his 30 years’ experience in cropping systems; and Adam Varenhorst, associate professor and SDSU Extension Field Crop Entomologist, who will discuss Hessian fly and wheat stem sawfly.

Jonathan Kleinjan, SDSU Extension Agronomist; and Sunish Sehgal, associate professor and SDSU Winter Wheat Breeder, will also discuss the 2023 SDSU Winter Wheat Variety Trial results and other ongoing winter wheat research and breeding efforts. The South Dakota Wheat Commission and South Dakota Wheat, Inc. will also be represented.
