(Ziebach County, SD) — The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is confirming anthrax has been found in a beef herd in Ziebach County. Several cattle were found dead in an unvaccinated herd of a hundred-50 pairs. It’s the first discovery this year of the deadly disease than can affect all livestock. Animals are often found dead before the disease can be detected. The Animal Industry Board advises that if Anthrax is suspected, contact a local veterinarian and do not move the carcasses until a diagnosis is made.
