(Ames, IA) — Iowa State University is asking farmers for help on a project to help farmers use the right amount of nitrogen applied to crops. The project is from the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative. Mike Castellano with the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative says nitrogen is a tricky element, where if farmers apply too much or too little, it will affect the crops. ISU scientists will gather data by writing an experiment for farmers to apply to their nitrogen applicator. The group hopes to make a forecast tool for farmers before the season.
