SDSU Extension Co-sponsoring Range Beef Cow Symposium for Cattle Producers

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension is co-sponsoring the 2023 Range Beef Cow Symposium in Colorado and encourages cattle producers to participate.

Colorado State University’s Department of Animal Sciences will host the 28th Range Beef Cow Symposium on Dec. 13-14 at The Ranch in Loveland, Colorado. There also will be a pre-symposium Beef Quality Assurance training on Dec. 12.

The biennial symposium offers an exclusive program of practical production management information specific to the region’s cattle producers. Additional co-sponsors are the Cooperative Extension Service and Animal Science Departments of the University of Nebraska and the University of Wyoming.

“The Range Beef Cow Symposium has been popular through the years with beef cattle producers and agriculture professionals who support the beef cattle industry because of two major parts: presentations and speakers that are top notch, and a trade show with commercial displays from many segments of the industry,” said Ken Olson, professor and SDSU Extension Beef Specialist.

This year’s program will include nationally and internationally known industry speakers delivering cutting-edge information on beef cattle management topics ranging from sustainability to marketing.

Sessions will incorporate up-to-date information and data from speakers, including several producer panels on hot-button issues and opportunities in the beef cattle industry. And the evening “Bull Pen Sessions” will also return.

“One of the most popular and unique aspects of the Range Beef Cow Symposium is the Bull Pen Sessions that provide time for attendees to ask specific questions of speakers and to discuss topics from the day in more depth,” said Julie Walker, professor and SDSU Extension Beef Specialist.

The symposium also boasts a top-notch trade show, showcasing a variety of commercial displays from over 50 allied industry vendors.

Early registration closes Nov. 25. Registration is $55 for students, or $115 for full or hybrid symposium participants until Nov. 25; student registration after Nov. 25 is $75 and full participant registration is $150.
