(Oakes, ND) — Recent snowfall across parts of North Dakota is creating a headache for farmers harvesting their corn crop. Cold temperatures and a few inches of snow on the ground is making it harder to get the corn out of the field. In some locations, including Quandt Farms in Oakes, the impacts were severe enough to temporarily halt the harvesting altogether. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 57-percent of the corn statewide has been harvested so far this season. That’s down from the 70% that was harvested by this time last year.
