Iowa State Researchers Testing Nitrogen Fertilizer

(Undated) — Iowa State University researchers are introducing the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative to get a better understanding of the effects of nitrogen fertilizer and to aid farmers during the early growing season. The usage of nitrogen fertilizer is crucial for early crop production. Researchers will use about five acres of land with an assigned nitrogen rate varying from zero to 200 pounds per acre. The project is in its second year, with 270 trials done across 72 farms. Researchers hope to create a tool to help farmers by 2025.
