Minnesota Receives New Horizon Award For Second-Consecutive Year at AFBF Convention

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – For the second year in a row, the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) is the recipient of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) New Horizon Award, honoring the most innovative new state Farm Bureau programs.

The award was presented during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) 105th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City.

Minnesota was recognized for its Ag Day Gala, an annual event held on National Ag Day, designed to cultivate and recognize the rich history of the farmers, organizations, businesses, and communities that support the success of agriculture across our state. The gala has been held the past two years, and each one was a sell-out.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the American Farm Bureau for a second year in a row,” said Foundation Director Ruth Meirick. “The gala is an exciting opportunity to bring together all facets of Minnesota agriculture for one special night of celebration.”

The evening served not only as a great networking opportunity, but also a unique platform to incorporate the diversity of Minnesota agriculture in a variety of ways: A signature drink with locally-produced spirits; local, hand-crafted items highlighting the silent auction; table flowers featuring fresh fruits and vegetables, arranged by local FFA students; entertainment provided by a former state 4-H member; and menu items locally sourced and thoughtfully selected to represent the diversity of products grown in our state.

The next Ag Day Gala will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the North End Events Center on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Minnesota was also one of 34 states to receive the Award of Excellence for demonstrating outstanding achievements in four program areas: Advocacy, Coalitions & Partnerships, Engagement & Outreach and Leadership & Business Development.
